Are you helping employees to meet their goals?

Do you or your employees need a helping hand to ensure goals are being met in the workplace?

Managers have the unenviable job of trying to get the best out of their employees, a task that becomes proportionately harder as the size of the workforce increases.

The difficulty stems from the fact that everybody wants different things, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach to engaging a workforce. Recent research from ManpowerGroup has found that employees even have differing ideas of success within the workplace, further increasing the challenge for employers.

If you think your employees need someone else to contact to ensure their needs are being met, it's worth setting up an employee assistance programme. These allow employees to call a toll-free number to discuss any issues that may arise at work, whether professional or personal.

What do employees want?
The contrasting views of what determines workplace success was studied by recruitment expert ManpowerGroup. The organisation discovered that only 10 per cent of all employees surveyed equate success at work with productivity and superior performance.

Managers need to be aware of these trends within a workplace to ensure their engagement and recruitment strategies are in line with what employees expect. According to Executive Vice President at ManpowerGroup Mara Swan, managers should make it a goal to reduce the gap between what they expect from employees and what they receive.

"People are happy and engaged at work when they are inspired," she said.

"Understanding employee career motivations and aspirations is key to creating a high performance culture that motivates individuals to do their best work. When individuals experience effective career development through ongoing career conversations with their managers, they are more likely to be engaged, motivated and ready to take on new challenges."
